Little Mermaid

The hardest thing about getting this shot was avoiding all the tourists who were crawling all over it.

It's amazing that such a simple piece of sculpture attracts such interest. Everyone wanted to stand in front of it to get their picture taken. Why do the Japanese do that silly V sign thing in front of all these places?

This statue was created in 1913 by sculptor Edvard Eriksen. The centenary is on 23 August. During the last 100 years she has been vandalised several times including having her head and arm cut off.
