Woke very late, having stayed awake scrolling way too late (again) last night. Just time to walk down to meet JB for coffee and a long overdue (3years!) catch up. We covered so much ground…elderly parents, adjusting to retirement, Board roles, culture policy, government funding, literary festivals, cancer treatments, house selling and buying etc etc….we were there for more than two hours! Sat in the sun outside the National Gallery watching people make the most of what may be our last lovely day (and sure enough the clouds bubbled up later). Home and made a sandwich for lunch then set to doing a long overdue sort out and clean up of my dressing table stuff, including jewellery. Took ages but felt good to finally get it done and restore some order and chuck out ancient mascaras and broken earrings etc. Listened to a couple of ‘The Rest is History’ podcasts about Oppenheimer whilst I worked away…interesting to keep filling in the gaps in what I understood from the film.
So strange to be spending such a low key day doing pretty much mindless tasks….still amazes/confuses me that there’s not that much more pressing to do when I imagine what Septembers used to be like. So strange.
Out to meet CW and CMcL for drinks and planning fundraising things…the bar at the top of this hotel was empty other than the three of us…suspect it’s too much style over substance so there’s not a lot of atmosphere to attract people up to the 4th floor but I had a great view down to the lobby!
We had a good chat…really like C who’s always so positive and energised and certainly gets stuff done, although it’s hard to relate to the talk of second (and third!) houses and week long breaks with kids at Gleneagles etc etc….a different world!
Home in rain (luckily I remembered to take an umbrella!), supper and Repair Shop. I’m now going to bed to try and have an earlier night than recently!
