Castello de Sao Jorge, Lisbon

We left Cascais this morning taking the train along the coast to Lisbon where we’re spending the next week.

Castelo de Sao Jorge was this afternoon’s main visit for us. Once a Moorish castle but following the recapture of Lisbon in 1147 King Afonso Henriques transformed the hilltop citadel into the home of Portuguese kings.

Great views of the city from the ramparts.
