The Devil's Coach Horse

A Devil's Coach Horse beetle adopts its characteristic pose when I disturb it. I'm sure these used to be more common when I was a child. Maybe I just don't play in the woods enough these days. It also reminds me of the gothic horror novel The Beetle by Richard Marsh which was written in the late 19th century. I remember being scared witless reading it.
