spring and summer are both fled
Last one in the Autumn-series ...
... here's some Janis Robertson verse, as taken from the pictured 1998 poetry collection (edited by Ruth Byars):
Autumn Leaves
The leaves are turning brown now
There’s silver in your hair
The chilling winds of autumn blow
Through woods that once were fair
The leaves are falling earthwards
There are tears within your eye
The falling rain is your reward
For all the days gone by
The leaves are blowing round you
As you stand amid their fall
The icy snows of winter due
And you can hear them call
For spring and summer are both fled
You lived them to the full
Still looking forward without dread
To the forthcoming Yule.
