Wound up in Wexford

Opening up

The hedge has gone ... or at least, the bulk of it.

There was a hedge between our patio area and the front part of the garden - seen here from the front garden.  It undoubtedly served a valuable purpose in increasing privacy and as a wind break.  But it was very boring - all griselinia.  We wanted to be able to see our developing trees from the patio.  And we want an ornamental pond, and a greater variety of shrubs.

So today T dug up most of the hedging bushes - we've left two or three at each end for the birds.

There will be more hedging developments in the next few weeks - keep watching!

W had a busy day, fitting a workshelf in the garden shed so he can do plant potting up in the dry in the expected abundant rain!  Autumn is definitely approaching apace - although it was dry and sunny today, there was a definite nip in the air.  And the swallows and martins seem to have gone.
