Last day :-(

Jon and I are back at work tomorrow- but with more plans today to get back on the water, we were all up at a good time. Even Andy showed his face at breakfast with the rest of us, keen to get back in the driving seat of the canoe.

After a brief 'blip' with our car, we moved the canoe to Andy's van, and left headed to Wast Water. Challenged to find a different spot to launch from and also park close enough to be accessible, we eventually found somewhere, at the other end of the lake. The Screes much closer, but negotiating the path down a bit more hairy. Wet, and steep, but not too steep, and with plenty of support, we got everyone and our 'stuff' down there. It was blowy, quite cold and the water was noticeably choppy. I inwardly tensed, but we were here for one thing, and after a quick brew prepared by Ange, the same crew were on board in no time. No shakes this time, no wobbles and no worries, just determined paddling. Yet the wind was taking them down the lake, so they went with it, both Andy and Jon paddling then turned back up against the wind, paddling furiously to reach the shore. It was just amazing to see and Andy was overjoyed again, lifted in spirit. Its better than any mental health medicine.

We returned home a bit colder, but happier. Jon and I packed up our car, had a cup of tea and then said our goodbyes. Hugs, tears, more hugs and promises to see each other again soon. Because that is what you do with old friends, who sometime slip out of reach, and need hauling back.

Now 5 hours into our 6 and a half hour journey home. I've written a poem, blipped, and now just an hour ish to go!
