Europa point
Friday
Met our friends, Steve and Lourdes for a coffee at waterport, then we had a wander around town on our own. The church of Scotland building, where our son Steven was christened in 1989, was still standing, but apparently no longer used as a church.
The buses were still on strike, so we walked back to our apartment, stopping for lunch at Piccadilly Gardens on the way.
After a brief rest at the apartment, we walked down past camp bay to the Nuffield pool (now called the Europa pool) and met Jackie there. It's still looking much the same as it did in the 80s, but the children's pool and play area have gone.
In the evening, our friends Steve and Lourdes picked us up and took us on a tour of all things new around the rock. This included the University at Europa point, an athletics track and sports field at windmill Hill (previously mod property), and various new high rise buildings. The Royal Naval hospital (top of collage photo), where our son Steven was born, is now a care home and flats.
We had dinner with Steve and Lourdes at a restaurant at waterport and they gave us a lift back afterwards.
