Slow

Quick catch up first thing with VG then spent most of the day in relatively mundane sorting/admin/email stuff, mainly around arrangements for P but also trying to get my head around my diary for the next few weeks (trying to carve out time to go down south again, working out when various visitors are coming and getting committee meetings confirmed).  Chatted to K about a trip up here and booked theatre tickets. All rather mindless really and very slow paced. Posted some parcels and did the recycling and some food shopping, and made a rather delicious bean and cabbage warm salad for lunch that was Nigel Slater’s suggestion in the paper this weekend. Used the fresh beans from A’s neighbour’s garden…delicious! The streets and shops were full of new students carrying their free Domino’s pizza bags and buying their provisions, all in small groups chatting in a frantic ‘getting to know you’ way about nonsense like how different soft drinks got their name and whether Dr Pepper is really a form of cola. You could almost smell the desperation to fit in and be liked….poor things, it’s such a huge step for them. Took me back to my first week at Uni and to the intensity of settling each of Mt, T and A into their respective homes from home all those years ago!
At the end of the day got changed and popped down to the New Club to meet JL for dinner and a lot of chat about our Chairing roles. Ended up staying very late, surprisingly, and mulling over our conversation as I hoofed it home.
Been a much nicer day weather wise than I’d expected and the city was looking very splendid as I walked down the Mound in the early evening.
