St Columba's Day

Education time. 1450 years ago Columba, with other monks, arrived from Donegal on the shores of Iona where they established a monastery which was the first in a network of monasteries in Scotland and Ireland. These were not closed institutions but worked in their communities.

Colum is the Irish Gaelic form of the Latin Columba and Cille means church in Gaelic. Columcille is Columba of the Church. This centre is an admirable charity for young adults with learning difficulties.

Reflected in the window is a building, once a church, now used by Napier University.
