Diary of an Edinburgher

Exciting bus ride

Pip came at 8.30, and the electrician came at 9am. Pip stayed till 1.30, but the electrician was here till 9.05! And yes, it WAS the fuse box (Forthports was right) but in my defence, it was not the usual switch, but one on the other end of the row, which was beside three switches that are not in use, so are UP anyway. But lights suddenly not working? Fuse box!

Jan came round for a cuppa, and to confirm holiday/Archie sitting arrangements and to pick up the keys.

I then decided to take Archie into town to pick up an item (and return an item) and to use the newly restored 9 (ex 41) bus, which now goes down the Mound and along George Street, the route it has been taking for the last few decades. As we came down the Mound, I noted that - YES - the awful white tarpaulin/screen/fence that has surrounded the Galleries for many years now while they renovated has now been removed!

We were quite a while in the shop (Seasalt) returning and picking up an item (dogs allowed) but they have such a quiet, relaxed soundtrack, I wasn't in a hurry to get out. Neither was Archie - people make quite a fuss of him.

We walked along the street a bit and I spotted a new (to me) shop - The Alchemist. A long long dark corridor, loud music, sumptuous red seating, groovy lighting. It was dog friendly, so we stayed and I had a coffee.

I was sorely tempted to take the new bus back home, but thought I should give Arch a bit more of a walk, so we went down to the Gardens and through the graveyard and yes - the bus just arrived as soon as we were there. I LOVE that.

In the afternoon JR took Archie out. I had a snooze, but woke up suddenly and decided to cut the hedge. I'm not too good on the big ladder now, and usually let JR do the top of the hedge, but I started it and got one side done before she came back and took over while I did the sweeping. All done and it looks smashing.

I've got my suitcase out and open. I've now put it away again, still empty. Tomorrow.
