Antique Meissen
This lovely little treasure was given to me by my mother in law. It once belonged to her mother, and now it lives with me, waiting to be handed on to the next generation some day.
What you are looking at is a chocolate pot with a cover and stand. It was made by the Meissen porcelain factory some time during the 1700's. I love the little hand painted vignettes of cows standing in their picturesque settings, and those odd pawed feet. You can't see it in this picture, but the back of the pot has a handle fashioned from a pair of intertwined serpents. Everything is set off by that glorious, sunny yellow ground and lots of lavish gilt decoration.
