Edinburgh Ridings
Despite the threat of thunderstorms and rain I headed into the city this afternoon. It was the annual Edinburgh Ridings. Ridings are where people on horses ride round the borders of the town/ village to mark the territory.
The rain did come but after the main event.
Of particular interest was seeing the Lord Provost on horseback. I don’t recall him at school (see blip of 19 August) taking horse riding lessons but from what I saw he was proficient at controlling the horse. He fortunately paused just near to where I was standing.
Some 280 horses were meant to be riding up the Royal Mile, having progressed round parts of Edinburgh. I didn’t count but it was an impressive sight.
To keep us entertained before the procession there were staged events of fighting. Then acrobatics on horseback before the formal procession started down the Royal Mile then back up followed by the horses. Some very grand outfits.
