Door Jam

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,

As you may recall, Caro and I are involved in a battle of wills with the local birdlife.

We like to have our back door open so the boys can run around in the garden. But the blackbirds like it too. We'll be sitting here watching tv when....

BOOP

BOOP

TINKLE-TINKLE

This is the sound of a blackbird scruffling around in the cat biscuit bowl. It is typically followed by the FLAP of wings as the bird flies out of our living room in triumph!

Or sometimes it is followed by a confused bird forgetting where the door is and flying around the room sh*tting on everything.

Last week two of them even got into a FIGHT in our living room. One of them flapped away and the other flew to the top of the cat tree and went BOOP-BOOPITY-BOOP-BOOP in victory!

Our boys are USLESS. They watch the feathery comings-and-goings with half-interest. The boop-boop-birds have gotten used to this and know to ignore them.

So today I deployed Jam the cat. And his relentless staring from the back door did indeed seem to dissuade our birdy visitors.

I think over time the boops will figure out that Jam is not really a threat. But maybe if we deploy him sparingly, he can continue to keep our living room free of boop-poop.

"You're a good boy Jam, you did a good job," said Caro, putting Jam back in the toy basket.

It's come to a strange sort of something when your most productive cat is a plushie.
