"This Old Tree out in the Dunes..
...is possibly well over 500 years old - it is a Murray River Red gum tree...the sand over time has completely covered the trunk (perhaps 15ft to 20ft) it is quite a magnificent sight to be right under the bower of this age-old tree..
No, it's not in Mildura, but out of Wentworth NSW (where the blip of the Old Gaol was taken a while back..) It is surrounded by 400 acres of sand dunes, just as you see here and our grandson when he visited 2yrs ago (the time when I didn't end up in hospital) - had a wonderful time on a piece of cardboard box and a rope going down those sand dunes..and so today, many children were there having a great time..even I've been down the sand dunes on a piece of cardboard and a rope, right to the bottom - a loooong way down....but that was 2 yrs ago.. (I've had a few sleeps since then..)
And would you believe that this area is also special because it still has the surveyor pegs and a map of a 'new town' then planned to be the Capital Of Australia in the early 1900s - it was in the last 3 places to be considered as the site.. (Imagine that Aussies? Not Canberra, but here..it may have been!)
The area has featured in many films including "The Man From Snowy River II", "Burke & Wills", etc., - also Toyota Camry ads and others..plus music shows.. It's a fun place to be - out in the dunes and scrublands..
