Accident in Moscow

One of the peculiarities of a state in which everything is organised for the convenience of the authorities is that if you have an accident, even a slight bump like this one here, where the black car dinged the rear end of the white Porsche, you cannot move the vehicles until the police have arrived and taken details. I have seen that take up to 45 minutes, totally clogging the traffic.

In this case, the situation was refined by the fact that the street was one-way and narrow so that the police car was stopped in the traffic behind like all the others. One smaller car is squeezing through the gap but the wider one behind will not be able to make it due to the thoughtless (but legal) parking of the red car on the right. Result: standstill!

The only upside is that in Russia most things eventually work because the rules are broken and authority, wherever possible, ignored. When I walked back this way an hour later, the traffic was running freely again. The less likely possibility is that the police actually got out of their car and walked the fifty yards down to the scene of the accident. But miracles can happen!
