Sketching

Spent a great day at a sketching workshop on Shapinsay drawing buildings in the Balfour village. Our tutor was the architect Willie Watt, TheArchitectssketchbook . He is a fantastic teacher, really encouraging and shared lots of skills and tips. We all produced drawings we were really pleased with.

One of my fellow students was the local historian Sheila Garson. Sheila’s family go back many generations on Shapinsay and she is always fascinating to listen to about Orkney’s heritage and Shapinsay in particular. It was great to have her explain the history of the buildings we were sketching.

Willie is hoping to come back next year and do another workshop, I’ll hopefully be able to go along.
