Emergency Stall
This old wine barrel sits in front of the restaurant where P and I went last night. It’s name is a play on words - „Notstand“ means „state of emergency“ in German, but „Stand“ can also be a market stall. So this is the emergency sales stall for resident wine lovers, open 24/7: You choose any bottle, pay 5 Euros in the little red box on the right, and enjoy your wine.
It works. It doesn’t get robbed, or destroyed. It may be overlooked by neighbouring houses and there’s a little webcam somewhere in the roof, but the fact that this thing exists, and people pay fairly for the wine they are taking, says a lot (of good things) about the friendly village of Frauenstein.
