Gaia at Durham
I know that the Gaia exhibit has already featured on blip in various places, but I'm sure it can stand being blipped today too. In case you don't know, it's a 7-metre wide globe created from NASA photos and is really quite awe-inspiring. It's been in Durham cathedral since 10th July, but we realised that it finishes this weekend so we headed off today for a trip to the city: it's only 10 minutes by (frequent) trains from Newcastle.
The weather was glorious so after seeing the exhibit we decided to climb the 325 steps to the top of the cathedral tower (the first extra shows the arrival at the top - phew! and the second is the wonderful view of Durham castle taken from the top.
We then had a leisurely walk along the river: the light and the reflections were lovely. There were several couples rowing on the river - so of course I had to take a photos of one of them too - see the third extra.
