Ogunquit
Black blip for yesterday.
It was a better day. We were up bright and early and phoned the car hire company. They were adamant that only one payment had been taken for the car. We then phoned the credit card company. After a huge rigmarole of security questions (and fortunately I had previously done a recording of my voice with them for security which they also used) it turned out that Mr Flossmo had set £1000 as an alert level. That had triggered a possible fraud and the transactions all declined. The card had also been blocked. After more rigmarole it was unblocked and we heaved a huge sigh of relief.
We were out and about before nine and walked The Marginal Way, which is a cliff top walk along the coast. Even at 9am it was steaming hot but it was wonderful to be unburdened and by the sea. We managed to find a little cove and Mr Flossmo sat on a shaded rock whilst I put on my beach shoes and took a paddle in the ocean. I was intercepted by a lady on the beach who, recognising my British accent, wanted to know what I thought of the Royal Family. I asked her what she thought of Trump. We had an interesting conversation!
We had a small siesta and then walked to the Ogunquit Heritage Museum. Small but perfectly formed it was full of interesting artefacts and we discussed the origins of Ogunquit with the curator. By chance it also had a room devoted to woodcuts and etchings by a local artist. I spent some time studying what was on display.
We walked back to our apartment along the coast smiling at the old folks sitting out in the sunshine. Ogunquit might have been a logging and fishing community once upon a time but it’s now a community for human logs fishing for the sun’s rays.
