Château de Fontaine-Henry.
Today we visited this Château, which is situated between Bayeux and Caen. It has been hot once more at 31C. It is said to have some of France’s highest roofs, (for a Château) and when you first see it you can see why.,
It is one of the most spectacular in Normandy and it’s a former fortress, beautifully decorated during the Renaissance.
It has never changed hands and the family descendants still live there,
It houses a huge collection of paintings,
I must admit as we went round with a guided tour, (handouts were available in other languages on request, so English, German and Dutch were represented today) that it must take a lot to maintain it!
Our guide spoke in French with a bit of English.
The tour lasted an hour.
On our return we set off into Bayeux to have dinner at a lovely restaurant we used on Sunday. I am ready for a sleep having, for once, consumed two glasses of Côtes du Rhône rosé, and very nice it was too!
Not suppose to take alcohol with the meds I take but it was so good!
And I’m sure just for once it will be fine!
We get the Brittany Ferry back tomorrow late afternoon at 16:30 to Portsmouth where we are having another overnight stop,
