Bird's Eye View

Bonnie and Bill, our neighbors with the chickens, stay at their cabin most weekends, and sometimes ask for help with feeding and locking up their hens when their daughter isn't home. That was the case this weekend: I agreed to lock them up Saturday evening and to let them out and feed them in the morning. But when I arrived in the evening, the hens were already in their coop, quiet as can be. Afraid they'd been overlooked and had spent the day confined with no water or food, I lifted them out, so they could get a drink of water at least, They were as groggy as I would've been if someone had awakened me (only not cranky as I would've been), but soon they were pecking and drinking like crazy, so I stood there for about 5 minutes until it seemed like they'd had enough to get through the night, then scooched them back up their little ramp and back into the coop.
