Lock watching
While Nick fished on the River Ness, Bertie and I watched all the goings on along the canal which runs parallel to the river at this point. The boat in my blip has just come out of Dochgarroch Lock and is heading south westwards into Loch Ness.
Another thing that took my attention was the large gathering of swallows which spent the day flitting between the electricity pylons and a nearby group of birch trees. According to those in the know, these will be swallows which have flown south from Caithness, the resident local ones having departed some days ago. Isn’t it amazing the hundreds of miles these tiny birds fly just to spend summer in Scotland (other places are available).
