Auk Time of Year

Still some auks offshore this evening, although harder to see them amongst the waves compared to last night's flat calm. Perhaps more of them have succumbed to hunger or disease as I saw a number of dead ones washed up on the beach. Is this late summer pattern the new normal for the North Sea or signs that the ecosystem is changing more rapidly than its wildlife can cope with?
