Road closed!

Today promised to be hot - my brother and I were planning to have a drive round some interesting parts of Surrey. First stop was to be the Tillingbourne Waterfall at Broadmoor, but when we arrived at the lane which was to lead us in the right direction a sign said 'Road Closed'. We followed the diversion and then met another 'Road Closed' sign! Then another! We ended up driving round a huge circle and got absolutely nowhere! We finally opted for a new route and found the Broadmoor car park - parking is not allowed in the village.

We asked directions from a ranger having his tea-break and set off through the woods, but eventually turned back. The man informed us that the waterfall was dry anyway as the River Tillingbourne was leaking! Someone was out to get us!

After a mostly wasted morning we lunched at The Compasses in Gomshall - my Blip today - and set off for our second destination, Deepdene Garden. We were looking for a particular road out of Dorking, but when we found it there was a large sign - 'Road Closed'! A new route took us to Deepdene. I'd never heard of the garden, but when we arrived it was to find that it was totally unlike the picture on the leaflet. The amazing formal garden was reduced to grass and Rhododendron ponticum! See extra. Have I missed something? The website says that the garden was restored in the mid-2010s. Obviously we have different ideas when it comes to restoration!

Never mind - we had a nice day out, a good lunch and plenty of chat!
