Other side of the coin

I keep getting the odd compliment on the "heap" which gives the impression that it's a "Lovely garden".

I'll agree it has the potential, but with 13yrs. before the mast, or more accurately, behind the counter it developed into what an estate agent (Realtor?) would call a "mature garden" this translates as "He hasn't struck a bat in here for donkey's years."

This patch bears the scars. The nearer trunk was a 15' holly, the farther a fairly spreading Amelanchier. Also missing in action a, wide Pyrocantha and a "Heavenly Bamboo" (Nandina domestica).

On the subject of exotic weeds ... We took the bungalow in 1987, the back garden was a dog-run/lawn, hedges on 3 sides and several years' grass mowings in the corner. I wish I could have kept the Wood Blewits when the hedge and heap went, they were delicious.

Back to the weeds. We have never had an aquilegia of any hue in the garden, but there it is. We planted a very expensive stick some years ago. (About 4-6 quid's worth of single, dry stick in a pot turned into a huge Romnea Coulteri which now threatens world domination 8 growths over a 10 yard radius). It cropped up next door having Colditzed its way under the concrete path. The patch in sight shows 4 of the pesky things.

This part is scheduled to be taken down 2", membraned and gravelled pending "Shrubs in tubs".
