Lade Pits and the Denge Sound Mirrors.

Whilst on Lade beach, Romney Marsh, a local couple told me about the Lade Pits and the Denge Sound Mirrors.

I decided to take a walk along and investigate. 

It was a bit disappointing to find out that I could not actually access the sound mirrors, as they are closed to the public due to graffiti and people using then for skate boarding! I can see why.

The 3 sound mirrors where part of the Britain's national defence strategy.

The low lying Romney Marsh was well suited for the placement of the Mirrors which were designed as early warning systems to pick up the sounds of approaching enemy aircraft coming over the English Channel.
 
The mirrors were discontinued when the first Rader was introduced. 

The area is now looked after by the RSPB, and has an amazing array of wild birds
