Big Lad
Some time ago I booked a ticket to attend the Wooden Spoon (Cornwall) pre World Cup Dinner at the Penventon Hotel in Redruth, it’s tonight.
Mrs S is working but two friends, minus wives, are also going, the three of us as well rowing with Epic are also rugby lovers.
So the Wooden Spoon organisation is the children's charity of rugby. It is a grant-making charity which funds life-changing projects across the UK & Ireland, I have been a member for a while and was looking forward to the evening.
Following a pie & mash dinner, spotted dick for dessert the speaker for the night was Mike Phillips an ex rugby union player who played at scrum-half. On 16 March 2013, Mike surpassed the record of 76 caps set by Dwayne Peel as the most capped scrum-half for Wales. At over six feet tall and powerfully built, he had an unusual build for a scrum half, he was often compared to another ex-Wales international scrum half, Terry Holmes.
He spoke well across a range of rugby subjects and took questions, he held the floor for over forty-five minutes. He then circulated the room going from table to table chatting. With only the three of us at our table we managed to snag 10-15 minutes with him, good company.
Mrs S, good egg that she is, picked up all three of us and dropped us home.
Mrs S also very happy that I never succumbed to the temptation of the auction.
