Ses Illetes
Ses Illetes
At the top of Formentera you can drive round the Estany Pudent, a salt water lake that has the salt flats running off it. It’s a fascinating place. If you pull off toward the top road, you follow a red sanded tiny lane to the wild sands of Playa Ses Illetes. It’s jaw droppingly beautiful.
Today the winds blew wildly which seemed to just add to its charms. To the west relative calm, then, over a set of planks that protect the sand banks, and there only 20m away was absolute bedlam.
Out at sea wind kite merchants literally flew through the air. They were incredibly talented and of the highest bravery.
We got back to our little hired stallion and drove due east towards the climb to the mirador and there, high up in the hill, you look down on the thin island, northern Mediterranean seas battering its shores, yet maybe only 2km away the southern part of the island sat in peace. Incredible.
Now sat sinking my second drink and thankful I got the car back in one piece.
Here’s hoping the winds slow overnight because tomorrow we catch the ferry to our plane!
