Port Isaac
Now a couple of backblips.
E and I joined some friends at their rented holiday let overlooking the harbour at Port Isaac on the North Cornish coast soon after lunch.
We had quite a struggle driving down the hill into the village. The streets were very narrow and packed with visitors and their dogs. Finally we reached our turning through a very very narrow space and up Roscarrock Hill. Once parked we planned not to use the car again until we were ready to leave!
There has been a community here since the 14th C. The name Port Isaac comes from the Cornish Porth Izzick meaning corn port. Until the trains arrived in the south west, Port Isaac was busy importing and exporting Delabole slate, timber, coal and pottery. It the then focussed on its pilchard fishing until the early 20th C when it turned to tourism. Doc Martin, the famous television series, has certainly had a major impact here as well as other films. Visitors were trudging up and down Roscarrock Hill all day to look at the doctor's house - as well as the glorious view from the top.
