German grassland

Until the fifties, many grasslands were rich in (flowering) herbs and grasses.  Due to agricultural intensification, many of these grasslands have become impoverished in terms of species richness.  Many characteristic species have disappeared or been reduced to marginal parts of the grassland, such as in the ditch banks.
