And then the batteries failed

I woke later than usual this morning, and coming out to the main room I saw that the sky was showing signs of the coming sunrise. Accordingly, I decided to defer a run until later in the day, and use the Pentax from the deck. After taking a number of pictures as the sky went through wonderful colours and cloud shapes, I took this one expecting the sunrise at any moment. When it came, the camera stalled, and flashed at me that the batteries were flat. (It takes four AA batteries) There had been no warning, which is a nusisance as I had no spares with me.

Never mind, this one has some lovely colours and the cloud shapes are appealing. I also like the dashes of blue and turquoise between the clouds. If you look at it large, you may be able to see some of the many gulls which flew across while I was there; presumably heading to the Snells Beach foreshore where they seem to gather in the early morning.

In the distance, the purple heights of Little Barrier Island can be seen beyond Tauwharanui. I was keen to include that in this latest addition to the Saturday sunrise series
