Friday 25th
Up very early, worried that Mum hadn’t had any painkillers all night and might not be able to ask for more - or to swallow them if she did. We consulted the who-to-call-at-different-times chart and rang the Urgent Care unit. But they didn’t seem to know anything and suggested calling 111. Mum seemed peaceful so we left it until the hospice nurses came on stream. But at 7:00, Stew called us over in time for the three of us to watch mum take her last breath. A pulse in her neck flickered and then stopped.
We rang the hospital and someone came out to make the official pronouncement. They were to tell the GP who will issue the certificate.
Rang the Co-Op who duly came round and collected Mum.
Mostly a sense of relief that she hadn’t suffered in this last two weeks. She had had a good week seeing friends and family and another week of mostly sleeping.
