Hurricane Adlani Survivor
Between bands of strong wind and heavy rain, I went out into our front yard to take a quick look at our trees. All was well enough, but then I noticed this very young squirrel huddled up against our garage door screen. It had, most likely tumbled out of its nest located about 40 feet up in an oak tree. I looked it over, it was frightened, of course, but probably uninjured. I carefully picked it up to check further for injuries. It looked healthy and didn't struggle so I placed it at the base of the tree I determined was probably it's home. It immediately scrambled up the tree, not looking down until it was about twenty feet or so up the trunk. Then it continued on up to the tree's crown. I hope that mom took over from there. Glad I had my phone with me for these photos!
Hurricane Adlani's bands of high winds and driving rain will be with us here in Gainesville throughout the remainder of today. I guess that we've 'dodged another bullet' so to speak. Communities on Florida's West Coast are not as fortunate. The storm's tidal surge was dangerously powerful and history making. Many small communities are underwater. This area of Florida has not seen the landfall of a storm of this magnitude for over a hundred and twenty-seven years.
