unexpected encounter

Last year we had so many crabapples fall from our tree that I just left them on the ground for the animals. I guess we don't have many wild animals that like crabapples.The apples stayed, and rotted, and made a mess in the yard that both Laney and I tracked into the house all Fall.

So this year I decided to rake up the apples as they fell. Today was the first raking.  Much to my surprise this activity annoyed a nest of Yellowjackets in a nearby retaining wall. And I was stung on my hand and ankle before I knew what was happening.

After running inside to check Google for what to do for said stings, I went back out with my long lens to see if the stingers were bees or Yellowjackets. So it looks like I will have pain, swelling and itching for the next week.
