This is only the second church (after St. Lukas) I blipped, and the first one which is actually the main act of the photo; the fact is rather remarkable, as there are over 100 churches in Munich - and some very impressive ones, too.

Had a free day today - and managed to do nothing much. I lazily lay in the sun for hours in Englischer Garten, when I decided to go on a short bike ride to take my photo of the day. And I actually had already decided what to blip, so...

Today's blip shows the Catholic Parish Church of St. Paul. Most people visiting Munich during September probably have already seen, but not really memorized this huge structure - it is located right next to the Oktoberfest grounds and close to the respective underground station. The church was completed in 1906 and today is one of Munich's biggest churches and with 97 metres has the third highest bell tower in the city. St. Paul gained notoriety in 1960, when an ascending plane streaked the bell tower, crashed into Martin-Greif-Straße and crushed a tram. 52 people died in that accident - 20 plane passengers and 32 tram passengers and pedestrians.

Insider tip for the photography aficionado: during the Oktoberfest the bell tower is open for visitors and offers the famous postcard view of the event.
