So many amazing places…

Today was so full of wonderful things, it’s hard to know where to begin.  I will start with Dun Carloway, built in 250 BC.  A Dun is a fortress where people would shelter from invaders.  Then, we visited the Black Houses of Gearrannan.  (Some fans of “Call the Midwife” series on PBS may recognize it from their Christmas special a couple of years ago).  Then it was on to St. Moluag’s a 13th century church built on the site of 6th century chapel.  It is one of only four places of pilgrimage in Scotland.  The little side extension you see on the right is a leper’s chapel so the afflicted could attend mass with out infecting the rest of the congregation.  St. Molaug was said to cure sores. We saw so much else but these are the highlights.  Gift#238: to walk in the embrace of history and with the memories from my trip here in 2005.
