Edinburgh Festival day 1

We drove down to Edinburgh this morning. Probably not our best idea - it was plain sailing until about 6 miles before the Queensferry Crossing when we encountered a massive traffic jam. A journey that takes about 3 hours normally took us 5 hours and we have promised ourselves to take the train the next time we travel down. 
We saw a couple of shows in the evening - The News Revue (excellent) and then some jazz at the hub (not quite our cup of tea). As per normal the city centre was buzzing -- the blip is from a very busy   Royal Mile  looking down Cockburn St.
