Beaulieu and Bucklers Hard

It has been a very fraught day.

Plan A flight at 9.50am. Shocked when we went to check in and were told the flight had been cancelled! They were meant to email and or telephone us last night but had not done so!

There are only two planes serving the Alderney to Southampton route and one had a ‘technical problem’ so was out of service today. All other flights today plus those via Guernsey were fully booked so…slight panic.

Plan B. We were told that the airline would pay for accommodation for the night plus meals during the day and possibly they would be able to fly us out tomorrow. Luckily our accommodation was still available for another night but my daughters was not so they were booked into one of the best hotels . So we took them to their hotel and then returned to our place and had some breakfast.

Plan C. We had not unpacked when I received a phone call to say they now had 2 seats on the 11.50. They explained this was because it is a 19 seater plane and they only ever book 17 seats as often they need the weight capacity of the other 2 seats for freight to the island but today they did not going back to Southampton. So back to the airport and the flight and journey home went to plan juts 2 hours later than planned.

Plan D. My daughter was informed they would not be able to get the 4 of them on a direct flight until Tuesday at the earliest but offered them an evening flight to Guernsey today, overnight there and an early flight to Southampton tomorrow morning…which she accepted. So we are waiting to hear if that goes to plan.

Our flight was quick, about 30 minutes, but it was very cloudy. I did catch a glimpse of the Needles as we flew over the Isle of Wight and then Beaulieu and Bucklers Hard which we visited at Easter this year.
Interesting to see how green everything still looks, very different from last year.
