Strange Sunday

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,

So while yesterday was happening in Tauranga, I was at the musical "Wicked" with just about everyone from work including these three (Briar, Olivia and Fazzy).

I kind of liked it and everyone seemed to have a great time, but obviously my mind was elsewhere.

Today was very strange. It's just odd not having Caro here and not being with her when she needs me. We talked a few times on the phone today and she seems good.

She told me the past two days have felt healing for her. It was like having her actual dad back again, she told me. He had slept the entire time she was there, and so his dementia was quashed.

She got to cuddle him and tell him how she felt, she told me. And he was calm and the fear and anxiety that have plagued him for the last few years did not interfere with their conversation. He was dad again.

I'll be going up there on Wednesday for a ceremony the daughters are holding for him. Caro asked me to say a few words and I'll probably talk about the first time we met, and maybe about that time he took care of me when I was hungover.

As for Caro, she is definitely grieving but I can tell a weight has been lifted. She said visiting Tauranga from now on will feel less like a series of chores she has to do, appointments she has to make, fights she has to fight.

I really want this year to be over though.

S.
