A Battered Butterfly

Another bright morning so I got out for walk (a 4+ mile jaunt) - and at least I found something to photograph.

This rather battered butterfly landed on some grass alongside the path I was walking along…..and it stayed put long enough to grab a few shots. Amazingly, it managed to fly away despite the extensive damage to its wings. I believe it to be the remains of a Speckled Wood :-)

The nice weather turned to torrential downpours around lunchtime (with it forecast to continue into the evening) - so I expect that the Leeds Festival site will soon be a quagmire. We can probably expect very muddy roads for a while now, so no point in washing my car just yet (phew)…
