Ruffled

The last few days have brought a slight improvement so we take a slightly longer walk - along to Angel Bay. There are a few seals on the beach below the cliffs, but it will be at least another month before any pups appear, and it’s exhilarating to walk along the cliffs and feel the wind from the sea, its chill warmed by the sun.

I’m hoping to see stonechats, or maybe even a kestrel, but there’s no sign.  Out to sea, cormorants fly past, returning to their nests from feeding out to sea, too far away to photograph, though closer in gulls circle the cliffs.

Then my eye is caught by a single jackdaw, gloriously iridescent in the sunlight. He stands on one rock, surveying the scene imperiously, eyes bright blue against the black.  I want to catch him in flight, but somehow he refuses to move until I put my camera down when he decides to fly over to the next rock. Then the wind catches his neck feathers, fanning them out into a ruff, transforming him into an Elizabethan gentleman - my blip today.

Many thanks for your kind comments, stars and hearts for yesterday’s’Yellow’ - all very much appreciated!
