Asgog Castle

The ruined seat of the Clan Lamont sitting by Loch Asgog near Tighnabruaich ( surely a mis-spelling of Ascog , itself from asgaig ? ) is very picturesque.

We walked to it today along with a group from Clan Lamont who are having their annual gathering in this part of Cowal - very much Lamont country - this weekend.

Cathleen’s grandmother was a Lamont recorded in the 1901 census as living in the Gamekeeper’s Cottage on the nearby Lamont Estate , the second youngest of 10 siblings there at that time.
