Newhailes
Back Blip
Today was a busy little day, in a leisurely sort of way.
I had arranged to meet one of my friends in Edinburgh and our first stop was an exhibition of Peter Howson paintings at the City Arts Centre. And very good it was too.
Rather than have lunch in the city centre, my friend suggested we jump on a bus and go through to Musselburgh and maybe have lunch at Newhailes, an estate managed by the National Trust for Scotland. We did and a very pleasant couple of hours were had wandering around the estate, enjoying lunch in the courtyard cafe and then a further exploration of the estate paths.
Not content with that, we then took another bus for the short trip to Portobello where the plan was to have an ice cream and a walk along the sea front. We managed the latter but not the former. Or, to be more accurate, we did these two in reverse order. We walked to Leith, had an ice cream there, and by that time it was time to go home. It had been a longer day out than either of us had anticipated, but a good one for all that.
Today's Blip is of Newhailes House, which is available to view only on organised pre-booked tours. That wasn't on today's agenda..
