Don Dipper

I was down to the Don this afternoon - not the faster flowing, semi-rural section of the river that is close to our house, but the slower section that flows through an industrial area of the city. I haven’t been down there for a while. I’d hoped I might catch a Kingfisher, as we’ve seen them around this area in the past. No joy today, but I was surprised and delighted to see a couple of Dippers. I don’t think I’ve seen them this far downstream before. I think this one is a youngster. There were also a few Sand Martins around, not yet departed for their return to Africa.
