Deeside

Wednesdays are Hospital days, and today was an especially long one. Our routine is that I get out from under the nurses feet after up to an hour in “J’s room”, have a walk somewhere interesting, and then get back to help her out with the crossword and to discuss the day.

So today I decided on a trip to Parkgate overlooking the salt marsh of the Dee estuary, and after a shoreline walk headed to nearby RSPB Burton Mere. It was a very grey day, but it didn’t rain and I had an enjoyable mooch around.

The blip image is at Burton Mere looking towards the Welsh hills (the Clywydians). The built structure is Connahs Quay power station on the Welsh coast near Flint. In the extra is another view looking a little further south, the backdrop here is the Tata (formerly Shotton) steelworks. It’s surprising how many good nature reserves lie close to big industry or power stations. The grey skies in both images sum up much of the weather we’ve been having this August.
