Night safari moth

A long hot day with many rewarding sightings including this stunning Japanese Oak Silk Moth spotted by our super skilled guide and driver tonight. We also saw three badgers, numerous toads and several red deer.

Earlier we visited Lake Cernika an intermittent lake, Slovenia’s largest which is usually dry in August but this year was very full. I managed to fit in a quick swim before a delicious picnic lunch, I had been expecting refreshing water however it was the warmest fresh water I have ever swum in. Fun though and I was dry by the end of lunch.

It was so hot that our itinerary changed and we did a short gorge walk to some of the sink holes that seem to be everywhere. It was a little cooler than the shore of the lake.

Many white storks, a marsh harrier and the usual collection of finches, and a bee eater.
