Murder mystery

Whilst walking down our road just after 7pm we found a dead long-eared bat on the pavement.  It was still light so it shouldn't have been out.  Had it been disturbed or been lying there since last night?  Was its death natural; so why lying on the pavement?  No sign of attack by eg a cat; so what would naturally predate bats?

Nice, at least, to know that long-eared bats are around.  Minus one.
