Not the best design

Back in the 80’s these winches won a Design Council Award (but didn’t the Sinclair C5 get one as well?).
However whilst it was a good idea it didn’t work very well as a small boat winch.
I am formulating a modification that will enable them to work and save me serious money buying new ones.
