Small Town USA
Hubby somehow got into chiggers on one of our hikes. Of course, the medicine I bought to relieve chigger discomfort is at home. This morning, we headed to the nearest town with a pharmacy as soon as it opened. We bought an antihistamine he can take if the itching gets too intense. He’ll use hydrocortisone and Caladryl lotion until we get home. While there, hubby and I walked around taking photos of their murals and other art displays. I will put some of them in an extra. I worked with two ladies who lived in this town. The folks are very friendly and caring. Looks like they are trying to encourage artists to move in. Hubby and I had lunch there on Friday and enjoyed the small town atmosphere. It is primarily an agricultural area with pulpwood forests and large fields of corn and soybeans. We came back to the camper and have enjoyed beautiful weather and having most of this section all to ourselves. It has been quiet except for an occasional bird at the feeder. We decided not to hike anymore this trip since hubby is uncomfortable. This is our last day here and probably our last camping trip in 2023. It is just so peaceful out in the middle of the forest; we hate to leave. Things will be hectic when we get back home though. I will have to do laundry, completely empty the camper and create the WV menu spreadsheet. My sister and BIL head to the farm on Friday so she has to shop and pack soon. The spreadsheet outlines who will bring what. Our cousin’s prayers are Thursday. The funeral is Friday. Hubby’s birthday is also on Friday but we will celebrate it another day. I am staying with Mancil and the Gray pets on Saturday and Sunday. Brooklyn’s fall travel season starts this weekend; they will be in Gettysburg, PA until Sunday evening. We leave for WV on Monday and will be there until 5 September. There isn’t a lot of time for me to pack, shop and cook but I will squeeze it in some place. Once we get back from WV, things will slow down a bit. My big task then will be preparing bedrooms and breakfast menus for our company from Germany who arrive on 30 September. Our grands started school today. Chase has mostly Advanced Placement classes; hope he can keep up. Parker made the high school golf team again. Mancil has an apprenticeship with the local marine museums as part of his senior year studies. Mack will attend the county technical center part of her school day learning digital communications. These kids will be out and about this year. Sky leaves for college on Thursday and Abby starts her junior year with on line classes at UMGC. My babies are all grown up. It is time to make dinner. Hope you had a fun day. Stay safe. Thanks for your visit. “Living in a rural setting exposes you to so many marvelous things - the natural world and the particular texture of small-town life, and the exhilarating experience of open space.” - Susan Orlean.
